What are the New Jersey veterinarian CE requirements?

  • New Jersey veterinarians must obtain 20 hours of CE every two years. See Administrative Code Section 13:44-4.10 (pages 21-25) for board-approved CE parameters. 

  • June 30, 2025 is the next license renewal deadline in New Jersey.

  • All 20 hours can be obtained online. 

  • 17 CE hours must be in surgery, medicine, or dentistry.

  • No more than 4 CE hours can be in courses related solely to business management. 

  • Opioid Mandate: 1 CE hour must be on topics that comprise prescription opioid drugs, including the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion per Administrative Code Section 13:44-4.10 (page 21).

New Jersey veterinarians are required to take 1 CE credit hour every renewal cycle on topics concerning prescription opioid drugs, including the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion.

CE Hour Requirements for New Jersey Veterinarians

New Jersey veterinarians are required to obtain 20 hours of CE every two years. All 20 hours can be obtained online. 

CE Course Parameters for New Jersey Veterinarians

Remember that when completing your required CE, there are some topic limitations.

At least 17 of your 20 hours have to be in the topics of surgery, medicine, or dentistry. And you can't take more than 4 hours on topics only related to business management. 

Don't forget that every renewal period, you also have to take 1 hour of CE on topics that comprise prescription opioid drugs, including the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion.
