What are the Oklahoma CE requirements for veterinarians?

  • Oklahoma veterinarians must obtain 20 hours of CE every year. See Section 775:10-3-5 (pages 4-5) for board-approved CE parameters. 

  • June 30, 2025 is the next license renewal deadline in Oklahoma.

  • All 20 hours can be obtained via RACE-approved online.

  • 15 CE hours must be devoted to scientific materials.

  • No more than 5 CE hours can be devoted to non-scientific material.

  • Controlled Substances Mandate: 2 CE hours must encompass state or federal controlled dangerous substance laws, or review of the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act and applicable rules.

  • Opioid Mandate: 1 CE hour in pain management or 1 CE hour in opioid use or addiction if the licensee currently holds a valid federal DEA registration number per Section 775:10-3-5 (a)(8) (page  5).

Oklahoma veterinarians must obtain 2 CE hours encompassing state or federal controlled dangerous substance laws or review of the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act and applicable rules. Those who hold a valid federal DEA registration number are required to take 1 CE hour in pain management or 1 CE hour in opioid use or addiction.

Track Your CE with the Free Oklahoma CE Planner

Use this planner to keep a personal record of your completed CE. The Oklahoma Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners rules say that veterinarians must maintain verifiable documentary proof of CE compliance "in a readily retrievable file of reported continuing education credit for random audit purposes." These files should be kept for five years from the date of attendance.

CE Hour Requirements for Oklahoma Veterinarians

Oklahoma veterinarians are required to obtain 20 hours of CE every year. All 20 hours can be obtained via RACE-approved online.

CE Course Parameters for Oklahoma Veterinarians

Remember that when completing your required CE, there are a few things to be aware of.

Did you know you can complete all 20 required CE hours via RACE-approved online? Remember, at least 15 of your 20 hours must be devoted to scientific material. And you can't take any more than 5 hours devoted to non-scientific material

Don't forget that every renewal period you also have to take 2 hours of CE encompassing state or federal controlled dangerous substance lawsYou also have to take 1 hour of CE in pain management OR in opioid use or addiction if you currently hold a valid DEA registration.

Dr. Lance Roasa is an active figure in both the veterinary and legal professions. He is the past-president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMLA) and has owned and managed more than ten veterinary clinics. As a national co-advisor to the Veterinary Business Management Association (VBMA), Dr. Roasa advises on personal financial literacy and career development. He also guest lectures at fifteen veterinary colleges, covering topics such as legal matters, medical recordkeeping, and business management. Before co-founding drip.vet, a part of the VIN Family, Dr. Roasa led the Roasa Law Group, a law practice dedicated to serving veterinarians in practice transactions and employment contacts. He earned a veterinary degree from Texas A&M in 2008 and later obtained his law degree from the University of Nebraska in 2013.

Drew Olson, DVM

Dr. Drew Olson is an experienced veterinarian and entrepreneur whose knack for business led to the successful growth and management of several veterinary practices. Originally from Papillion, Nebraska, Dr. Olson received his veterinary degree from Iowa State University before returning to his home state, where he practiced small animal medicine and surgery. As co-founder of drip.vet, a part of the VIN Family, Dr. Olson spearheaded the adoption of drip teaching methodology, recognizing its potential to improve the effectiveness of financial education for veterinary professionals.

Mr. Kellner is the Director of the drip.vet, a part of the VIN Family College Teaching Program. An integral part of the team, Mr. Kellner has participated in the development and creation of College of Veterinary Medicine courses for more than eighteen years.
